Bruce Jr. Eyes Continued Success Next Season After Big Changes in 2013

Inside Line Promotions – OWASSO, Okla. (Nov. 18, 2013) – Tony Bruce Jr. and his One 8 Motorsports team undertook a big task heading into this past season.

“We switched cars and engines,” he said. “I had had the same kind of stuff for 10 years and we made a switch to get better and go toward the future. It took us a few months to get acclimated to the new stuff that we got.”

Once the new package of Ford engines and Eagle Motorsports chassis were dialed in, Bruce Jr. picked up four victories – including a pair with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour en route to a fifth-place finish in the championship standings.

Perhaps the biggest highlight of the year came on July 10 at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, Mont.

“We got our first ASCS National Tour win in July and we did it in dramatic fashion,” he said. “We led the first part of the race and lost the lead. Then got it back in turns three and four coming to the checkered.”

Bruce Jr. notched his first Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour feature victory of the season with the last-corner, last-lap pass. His other ASCS National Tour triumph, which was just as memorable, occurred on Sept. 27 at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., for the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial.

“I was friends with Jesse and Daniel, so it meant a lot to pick up the trophy at their memorial race,” Bruce Jr. said. “The Hockett family remains important to me and it was a special moment to be able to honor them with a victory.”

Bruce Jr. added a pair of ASCS regional triumphs. He won with the ASCS Lone Star Region at Boyd Raceway in Boyd, Texas, on April 26 and with the ASCS Sooner Region at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., on June 1.

In addition to the wins, Bruce Jr. recorded 23 top-five finishes and 39 top 10s.

“I do think it’s a solid season, but I think we need to improve on that,” he said. “The way I look at things is to be better than the year before.”

While Bruce Jr. has goals in place for next season, he is looking to add more 410ci events to his schedule – which will include another run toward a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship.

“We’re going to try to get a 410 and try to do a few 410 races whenever we have the opportunity,” he said. “We’re going to run all of the ASCS National Tour stuff and fill in 410 races when we can. It’s important for us to expand and to continue winning for the team and our partners.

“This year I had three big partners that came on board with Lubbock Wrecker Service, Wheeler Metals and Briley Trucking, which added to the great support we get from the partners we’ve had for years. It was definitely a big year as far as getting new partners and we’re looking forward to having them all back next year and building on how we finished this year. It’s got our sponsors and us excited, and we’re looking forward to carrying the momentum that we finished this season with.”
