Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (May 18, 2014) – Tricky track conditions hampered Tony Bruce Jr. last weekend during a pair of ASCS Lone Star Region events in Texas.

“It wasn’t too bad of a weekend,” he said. “The unfortunate thing was the only time we got to do some racing was the heat races. Both tracks took rubber early in the A Main.”

On Friday, Bruce Jr. returned to Boyd Raceway in Boyd, where he captured a regional victory during his debut at the track last season.

“In hot laps the track was extremely wet,” he said. “All of a sudden when we went out there for our heat race and the track surface was completely gone. I really wasn’t set up for that.”

After starting on the inside of the second row, Bruce Jr. placed third in his heat race. That lined him up 11th for the 25-lap main event.

“It was good enough to put us in the A Main, but to win any of these races you have to put yourself in a good position by getting yourself in the redraw,” he said.

Bruce Jr. maneuvered into eighth place during the main event on the rubber-down track before a parts failure ended his night early.

“Coming out of turn two I felt something weird in the steering,” he said. “I started to roll out of the gas. When I got into turn three the car headed up the race track and got in the wall.”

A broken front axle relegated Bruce Jr. to a 17th-place result.

On Saturday, the One 8 Motorsports team returned to Devil’s Bowl Speedway, where Bruce Jr. captured his lone victory of the season in March. He picked up where he left off by charging from sixth to second place during his heat race.

“Our car was working really good,” he said. “The track was one lane around the top, but we were able to go to the bottom. If I would have forced the issue we could have won the heat race, but I knew second would be good enough to get in the redraw.”

Unfortunately, Bruce Jr. pulled the No. 6 in the feature redraw to start the main event on the outside of the third row.

“The track took rubber at the start of the race,” he said. “I jumped up to the top to see if we could get a couple of cars. I fell back a few spots and then got in line and waited for people to mess up to be able to pass them.”

Bruce Jr. ended with a sixth-place finish, which was his ninth top 10 of the season.
