Inside Line Promotions – OWASSO, Okla. (June 8, 2014) – Following a weekend washout, Tony Bruce Jr. and his One 8 Motorsports team are prepared for the Bob Westphal Memorial Cup Speedweek.
“It’s too bad the races at Lexington 104 Speedway and I-30 Speedway rained out last weekend, but now we’re looking ahead to Speedweek,” he said. “We’re putting together a brand new car for Speedweek and the summer months.”
After Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour races were postponed because of weather last Friday at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn., and Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., the five-race Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Speedweek begins this Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, where Bruce Jr. recorded his lone ASCS National Tour win of this season in March.
“I feel like for anybody who races ASCS, it’s like our home track,” he said. “We have a lot of laps around Devil’s Bowl and fortunately we have had a lot of success there. I’d say it fits my style.”
In addition to capturing the ASCS National Tour race at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on March 21, Bruce Jr. placed fifth and sixth, respectively, during two other ASCS races at the half-mile track. He also posted an eighth-place result in 305ci action and Bruce Jr. earned a pair of top 20s with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
That isn’t the only Speedweek track where Bruce Jr. has fared well. He has claimed at least one feature win at three of the other four tracks on the Speedweek schedule, which includes dates at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla. (Wednesday, June 18); Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. (Thursday, June 19); Outlaw Motorsports Park in Wainwright, Okla. (Friday, June 20); and Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo. (Saturday, June 21).
“The only track I haven’t won at is Outlaw Motorsports Park,” he said. “We’re pretty excited about all of them. Any time you look at your track record at all those places and they are all good, it’s pretty exciting.”
Bruce Jr. placed fifth in the Speedweek standings last season after recording three top fives and five top 10s in six races.
