Inside Line Promotions – OWASSO, Okla. (Oct. 5, 2014) – This season is down to four big weekends for Tony Bruce Jr. and his One 8 Motorsports team, which will have one more week off before closing the season with a month of racing.
“We’ve spent the past couple of weeks getting things in order to finish the year,” he said. “It will be a busy final stretch of racing from Texas to Arkansas all the way out to Arizona. We need to have everything set up to finish this year strong.”
Bruce Jr., who endured some tough luck and DNFs during the summer, has shifted any focus on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings to solely winning races. Bruce Jr. has three victories this season and he is looking to add to that total.
“We haven’t been worried about points for a while,” he said. “When we show up to the track the only goal is to win the race.”
The next challenge is Oct. 17-18 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the 41st annual Winter Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. Bruce Jr. claimed the ASCS National Tour win at the half-mile track in March.
He will then tackle I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the 27th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals Presented by Hoosier Tires Oct. 22-25. Bruce Jr. is one of only three drivers – along with Steve Kinser and Gary Wright – to win back-to-back Short Track Nationals, which pays $15,000 to the winner.
“I’ve always seemed to run well at the smaller, quarter-mile tracks,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of success at I-30 Speedway throughout the years and with the Short Track Nationals being one of the premier events of the season I hope we can find that success again this season.”
November kicks off with the Battle at the Border at El Paso Speedway Park in El Paso, Texas, on Nov. 7 and Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, N.M., on Nov. 8.
The season concludes on Nov. 14-15 at Cocopah Speedway in Somerton, Ariz., with the Cocopah Cup Challenge, capped by a $10,000-to-win main event.
“We’ve had some good runs at all of the tracks,” Bruce Jr. said. “There is no better way to finish a season than to go out and win races. Hopefully we can put ourselves in contention each night to wrap things up on a positive note.”
