Inside Line Promotions – OCALA, Fla. (March 1, 2015) – Tony Bruce Jr. made the best of the circumstances last Friday at Bubba Raceway Park.
Bruce Jr. overcame a high pill draw early in the night during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour debut at the egg-shaped track to rebound with an 11th-place finish in the main event.
“That place is really tough to pass on,” he said. “With the banking the way it is makes the racing groove pretty narrow. A bad draw is something we didn’t need there.”
Bruce Jr. maneuvered from eighth to fifth place during his heat race, which relegated him to a B Main. He then finished second in the consolation race to transfer into the main event.
“The track was taking rubber in the B Features,” he said. “When we went out there for the main event it was basically rubber down. We set the car up with a lot more stagger. I was able to roll the corners a lot better off the throttle then a lot of other guys. Turns three and four are really tight so a lot of people went in too hard and washed out on exit. That was how we passed most of the cars.”
Bruce Jr. passed eight cars – tied for the most – to rally from 19th to 11th.
“We made the best of it and we were able to advance fairly decent in the A Main,” he said.
Saturday’s event at Bubba Raceway Park was rained out.
Bruce Jr. will return to action March 13 at Flint Creek Speedway in West Siloam Springs, Okla., and March 14 at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., with the ASCS Red River Region.
