Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (April 26, 2015) – Tony Bruce Jr. is content with the result of his first World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series race of the season.
Bruce Jr. placed 17th at the Texas Outlaw Nationals on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, where he tied his second-best finish with the premier sprint car series during a limited number of races the past three years.
“All in all it wasn’t too bad,” he said. “The only way to get out there and get faster is to keep racing. Unfortunately Mother Nature hasn’t let us race much this year. It was important to get some laps.”
After Friday’s event at the half-mile oval was rained out, Bruce Jr. kicked off Saturday’s race by qualifying 17th quickest.
“We didn’t quite lay down a qualifying lap like we needed to and we missed the heat race inversion,” he said. “With the World of Outlaws format you have to make the inversion. We started at the back all night and ran around there.”
Bruce Jr. finished where he started – seventh – in a heat race to place only one spot out of locking into the main event. He then ended fourth in the Last Chance Showdown to garner a transfer into the $15,000-to-win feature.
“The track was one lane until the A Main,” he said. “I lost a couple of spots in the end, but the big thing for us is to get out and get some laps because the rain outs have been hurting our flow. We were ok. We need to work on the car and get things better when we race those guys again.”
Bruce Jr. will return to competition with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., for the Eagle Motorsports Rock ‘N Roll 50 Presented by MyRacePass – an event that Bruce Jr. promotes under his TBJ Promotions banner.
“We’ve always had some really good success there,” he said. “It’s been fun to promote a race there because the fans and the atmosphere is electric. I’m looking forward to going there and catching up with some friends as well.”
