Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 10, 2015) – Rain forced Tony Bruce Jr. and the One 8 Motorsports team to enact Plan B last weekend.

Knoxville Raceway became the host for Bruce Jr. for the first time this season on Saturday following Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour rainouts on Thursday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., during the McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic and on Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.

“Rain has wreaked havoc on us throughout this season and we were fortunate that Knoxville Raceway had a dry night so we hustled over there,” he said. “All in all it was a great night for us.”

Bruce Jr. kicked off the event by qualifying fourth quickest around the half-mile oval. That lined him up on the outside of the third row for a seven-lap heat race.

“You have to qualify well and you have to get through your heat race at Knoxville,” he said. “We were able to get a good start, which is definitely key. Coming out of turn two we were already to third. From that point on I made sure I hit the bottom and attacked as hard as I could. Whenever you’ve got a good car you have to take advantage of it.”

Bruce Jr. maneuvered from his sixth starting position to score the victory.

“A lot of the times you’re doing good just to get into the transfer,” he said. “To be able to go from sixth to win the heat shows how strong our car was. The only unfortunate part was they redrew the top eight and we drew the No. 8.”

Bruce Jr. started on the outside of the fourth row for the 18-lap main event following the feature redraw.

“There was one intense moment when (Jon) Agan crashed on the front straightaway,” he said. “I’m not sure how we missed that one. There were some close calls. The track was kind of narrow and that’s usually what happens when it’s narrow. Fortunately we were able to keep our nose clean and advance as far as we could.”

Bruce Jr. rallied from eighth into third place by the midpoint of the feature and he ended a close third behind the top two finishers.

“Anytime you can stand on the podium at Knoxville is good,” he said. “I really wish we could have started further forward, but it was a solid night.”

The One 8 Motorsports team plans to tackle an ASCS Red River Region doubleheader this weekend on Friday at Lubbock Speedway in Lubbock, Texas, and Saturday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla.
