Inside Line Promotions – SALINA, Okla. (June 7, 2015) – Tony Bruce Jr. had an epic rebound following a flip during the opening lap of his Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour heat race last Saturday at Salina Highbanks Speedway.

“It was definitely an eventful night,” he said. “We had a good starting spot for our heat race. Unfortunately I only made it to the back straightaway before we got blatantly taken out. I didn’t get quite as good of a start as I wanted to. We went through turns one and two and I put a clean move on Danny Jennings. He has some issues from races past and I guess he felt like he wanted to settle it right then. I’ve never been taken out on the straightway before. We got hooked and turned right and went off the racetrack. We got upside down and it made for a long night.”

Bruce Jr. and his One 8 Motorsports sprint car was sent off the track following the contact, which resulted in him flipping and being unable to resume the race.

“We had to change the rear end, front end, wings, all four shocks, we nearly rebuilt the car from that heat race,” he said. “We wanted to get everything done right to give ourselves the best chance for the A Main.”

Bruce Jr. missed the B Main, which he was scheduled to start 16th, and took a provisional to tag the back of the field for the main event.

“The track turned out to be really good and pretty racy,” he said. “We got kind of lucky. We had the car good enough to how it needed to be and passed a lot of cars. I stayed on the bottom for most of the race. I was able to rotate where a lot of guys couldn’t. No matter what line you ran you had to be smooth. I think people were caught off guard what to expect. You could run the bottom and be patient and that’s what we did.”

Bruce Jr. maneuvered from 23rd to a seventh-place result, which earned him the Hard Charger Award.

“All in all it was a good night as far as the performance goes,” he said. “Any time you earn the Hard Charger and run in the top 10 with the national deal it’s something you earned. It was successful for what we had to overcome. It was very gratifying to work that hard and have a good result.”

One 8 Motorsports will kick off the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek next Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.
