Inside Line Promotions – PARK CITY, Kan. (Oct. 12, 2015) – Tony Bruce Jr. took advantage of an opportunity that was presented late last week.
Bruce Jr. captured a podium finish on Saturday at 81 Speedway, where he made his debut driving for Danny King during the NCRA event.
“Everything came together real quickly to go over there and race,” he said. “I wasn’t doing too much this weekend so we headed over there. It wasn’t too bad for our first time in that car.”
Bruce Jr. won a heat race after starting on the pole to open the night. That lined him up on the inside of the second row for the main event.
“We were able to get a decent start,” he said. “I was running second for a while. I just couldn’t get anything going off the top of turn two. I was just spinning the tires. We rode around in second for a while. Danny Wood had something completely figured out that nobody did. He got by us and then the leader. All in all it was a good race for us. We’ll take our third-place finish and roll on.”
The third-place result marked the ninth top five of the season for Bruce Jr., who will return to his One 8 Motorsports entry this Friday and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the 42nd annual Winter Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
“We expect to go there and compete as hard as we can,” he said. “It takes a lot of luck nowadays and things to play your way to earn a victory anymore. We’ll give it our all.”
Bruce Jr. won the preliminary night last year during the Winter Nationals, which marked his third career Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour triumph at the unique half-mile oval.
“The fact that it’s different and challenging is what I like about it,” he said. “You actually have to drive and be able to do things right to be successful there.”
