Inside Line Promotions – ELDON, Mo. (June 5, 2017) – Tony Bruce Jr. recorded his first podium finish of the season last Saturday at Lake Ozark Speedway during only his third race this season.
Bruce Jr. and the Smith Racing No. 86 team kicked off the ASCS Warrior Region event by charging from fourth to win a heat race.
“We were able to get a really good start and go from fourth to first in turns and two,” he said. “Everyone went to the top and I stuck the bottom. I went straight to the top after that. It was one lane around the top. I don’t know how I made the bottom work.”
That locked Bruce Jr. into the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 6 to start the main event on the outside of the third row.
“We went from sixth to second pretty early,” he said. “I made a mistake and jumped the cushion in turns one and two about seven laps in. That let Randy Martin get by us. I got to him a couple of times. When we got to traffic the guys were running the bottom and the top three were running the top. I just couldn’t get back around him.”
Bruce Jr. ended with a third-place result.
“It was a pretty good night,” he said. “I just wish I hadn’t made that mistake. It’s tough to get in the car and make a mistake-free evening. I made a few and that was probably because of a lack of seat time more than anything.”
Bruce Jr. is scheduled to compete this Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo., and Saturday at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., with the ASCS Warrior Region.
