Inside Line Promotions – OWASSO, Okla. (Oct. 10, 2017) – Momentum is clearly on the side of Tony Bruce Jr. as he enters one of the biggest events in sprint car racing this weekend.
Bruce Jr. and the Smith Family No. 86 team will compete with the ASCS Mid-South Region this Thursday through Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the 30th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires.
“Short Track Nationals is a tough event,” he said. “Every time you touch the race track you have to accumulate positive points. If you have a bad draw you have to go forward and if you have a good draw you have to maintain.”
Bruce Jr. is one of only three drivers to score back-to-back Short Track Nationals titles as he accomplished that feat in 2008 and 2009, joining Steve Kinser and Gary Wright.
“It’s special because nobody will be able to take it away,” he said. “When you look in the record book you’ll see my name next to some of the greatest people in sprint car racing. It’s an honor. I’d like to win another one and get my name in the history book again as one of only four drivers to win three times.”
Bruce Jr. enters this weekend on the heels of his first victory of the season, which came at I-30 Speedway on Sept. 30.
“It reassures whether or not you can still do it,” he said. “It’s good to know our car is fast and we’re capable of winning. We didn’t do anything out of the ordinary and passed some really good cars to pick up a win so that is huge for our confidence moving forward.”
SEASON STATS –
