Inside Line Promotions – OWASSO, Okla. (Jan. 8, 2018) – Tony Bruce Jr. is out for vengeance during the 32nd annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals this week.
The Team Eights driver was in contention for a top-10 finish and a career-best performance during the marquee event inside the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Okla., last year before a parts failure midway through his preliminary night main event resulted in a DNF.
“Each year we are getting better and better so I have high hopes heading into the Chili Bowl this year,” he said. “We ran into some bad luck last year that really cost us, but that’s part of how this event plays out. You have to have a certain amount of good luck and breaks go your way to be a contender.”
Bruce Jr., who is slated to compete on Tuesday during preliminary action prior to Saturday’s finale, posted an 11th-place result last month during his most recent race. It was a good event to knock the rust off, he said.
“I think we gained on some things and I feel better climbing back in the car for the Chili Bowl with some laps last month,” he said. “I think we’re in a good position to have a successful Chili Bowl.”
His best outing at the Chili Bowl came in 2016 when he placed 12th in a preliminary night A Main before ending 13th in a B Main during the finale.
“This is my fifth year at the Chili Bowl and I feel as good as I ever have going in,” he said. “We did really well in 2016 and were on pace to top that last year. I believe we are capable of earning a top 10 during our preliminary night to put ourselves in position to make Saturday’s A Main, which would be a huge accomplishment.”
