Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (March 19, 2018) – Tony Bruce Jr. is pleased with his progress last Friday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway during the 45th annual Spring Nationals.
Bruce Jr. guided the Mike Hayashi owned sprint car to a 13th-place result after a slow start to the night during the opening round of a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com doubleheader.
“In the heat race I didn’t get as good of a start as I wanted to and that put us in the B Main,” he said. “I was able to pass a couple of cars and get everything dialed in for the A Main.”
Bruce Jr. placed fifth in a heat race before advancing from fifth to a third-place result in the B Main. That earned a transfer into the 19th starting position for the main event.
“The track was hard to pass on, but we were decent,” he said. “We had a left rear shock come apart so that made it a handful toward the last half of the race. We were able to move around a little more being in the middle of the pack. Toward the end of the race I found the rubber before some of the other guys.”
Bruce Jr. rallied from 19th to the 13th-place result.
“We constantly progressed,” he said. “A lot of times that’s all you can ask for. It’s new with me driving for Mike. We’re still trying to get comfortable in the car and find a baseline. Any night we progress seems successful.”
Saturday’s event finale rained out.
Bruce Jr. will be off this weekend before resuming competition March 30-31 at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., for the 8th annual Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout.
