Inside Line Promotions – BILLINGS, Mont. (July 16, 2018) – Tony Bruce Jr. posted a pair of podium finishes last weekend to give him three straight races with a third-place result.
Bruce Jr. drove for Mike Hayashi during the ASCS Frontier Region doubleheader in Montana. The action began on Friday at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls, where Bruce Jr. maneuvered from fifth to second place in a heat race.
“I drew in the back of the heat, but took the lead on the first lap,” he said. “I had a really good car. I was running the top when the bottom came in. We got passed and ended up running second.”
The heat race performance earned enough points for a spot into the feature redraw. Bruce Jr. pulled the No. 4 to start the A Main on the outside of the second row.
“The bottom was the only place to be so I fell back to sixth on the start,” he said. “I picked my way through traffic and got to third. Once we got there we rode in line.”
Bruce Jr. took the momentum from the third-place outing to Big Sky Speedway on Saturday. He powered from eighth to fourth place in a heat race before rallying from eighth to third place in the main event.
“We didn’t get a good starting spot for the heat, but we were able to go from eighth to fourth,” he said. “That gave us plenty of points to get in the redraw. Unfortunately, I drew the No. 8. We had a really, really fast car. I got to fourth in the first couple of laps of the feature. I was able to get around a guy for third. Then I pulled up behind Skylar (Gee) for second. After a caution about midway through the race the track took rubber and the race was over. We rode around the last half of the race.”
The two third-place finishes tied Bruce Jr.’s best result of the season.
