Inside Line Promotions – OWASSO, Okla. (Oct. 1, 2018) – Tony Bruce Jr. has yet to visit Victory Lane this season, but that doesn’t hinder his confidence entering one of sprint car racing’s marquee events at one of his favorite tracks.
Bruce Jr. will pilot the Smith Family No. 86 sprint car on Friday and Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., during the 31st annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals with the ASCS Mid-South Region.
“We still believe we can show up and win,” he said. “That’s what we’re going for. We won last year (at I-30 Speedway) with the same car and same team. I still believe I can win races. Otherwise we wouldn’t be out there doing it.”
Following his triumph at I-30 Speedway last season during the Short Track Nationals tune-up race, Bruce Jr. produced a pair of top fives during the huge event. He earned a podium finish during a preliminary night before finishing fifth in the finale, which marked his best Short Track Nationals result since winning in 2009.
“It’s definitely one of my favorite tracks,” he said. “Any time you win somewhere it automatically becomes one of your favorite tracks. There’s a lot I love about going to I-30 Speedway.”
Bruce Jr. won back-to-back Short Track Nationals titles in 2008 and 2009. He is one of only four drivers to accomplish that feat.
